After four months of operation, we were ready to throw a party to mark the official grand opening of our dental centre in Kwai Tsing on January 9.

Run as a social enterprise, the dental centre provides affordable, quality dental services to the community while surpluses generated will be used to help those who cannot afford dental care, especially the elderly. Already we have had the opportunity to treat some residents of a nearby home for the mentally handicapped. Another organization lent us special equipment to lift a quadriplegic patient on to the treatment chair so he could receive care. More recently, an elderly woman on public assistance was referred to us by volunteers from our outreach event, Volunteers for Seniors Day. She had been in much pain and discomfort from an old set of dentures. A hearing-impaired person found out about us from Facebook and got in touch. We are very excited the vision of helping the needy is gradually becoming reality.

We are especially grateful to Drs. Richard Charles & Esther Yewpick Lee Charitable Foundation for donating the start-up cost of the centre, to Tesco Dental (Hong Kong) for their donation of dental treatment chairs, and also to B. Braun Medical (H.K.) for donating various dental apparatus. And to our friends and supporters, we thank you for jumping in on this adventure with us to bring hope and change lives in Hong Kong!

The grand opening for the centre located in Sham Shui Po is being planned for March 20. We look forward to having more exciting news to share then!
