A few weeks ago, these four centre members were all smiles!
They all made significant improvements on their last exam!
Programme Officer Endy Ng (Endy Sir, as the children call him) shed some light on how they accomplished this.
“In our Homework Tutorial Sessions, between the time the children completed their homework and when they have to leave, they have a choice of activities. One choice was to do revisions first, then play. These four chose to do this. So I worked with each of them and together we made some action goals, such as revising four vocabulary words for 15 minutes each day. They each received a little reward when they met their daily goal. Over time, doing revisions before playing became a habit. They would even revise at home if they didn’t do it at the centre.
Another thing I noticed was that when the kids met their own goals, they grew more confident. They were even wiling to challenge themselves by setting higher goals. Finally, their persistence and efforts paid off! This was especially rewarding since two of the children have special educational needs. We were all delighted to see their progress!”
The mother of the two girls in the picture was so grateful that she brought in egg custard tarts for the whole office! We know that this wonderful victory could not have happened without our donors and supporters. Thank you!
