Volunteers for Seniors Day HOPE worldwide has organized the "Volunteers for Seniors Day" since 1996. The event takes place around two weeks before Chinese New Year. Three thousand volunteers serve single elderly people living in public housing estates. So far, we have had more than 50,000 volunteers participate and around 16,000 elderly people served.
Volunteers go in teams and visit previously identified single elderly. They bring “Lucky Bags” full of daily necessities such as rice, oil, biscuits, dry noodles, sponsored by donors and corporate sponsors. Depending on the needs of the elderly, the volunteers will clean and paint their homes, educate them about fall prevention, follow up on those who are at high risk for falls, or help them fulfill a long-standing wish.
