January 20, 2019 is a day where almost 3,000 of HOPE worldwide’s volunteers will gather to love the elderly people around many communities in Hong Kong.  The majority of the volunteers come from the Hong Kong Church of Christ.  The rest are their friends and also staff of corporations who want to do their part to fill our communities with love and care.

This love is expressed through simple visits by volunteers who come with bags full of goodies and who engage in conversations that show genuine interest in the elderly person.  It is expressed through helping to make the home sparkling clean.  It is expressed by helping the elderly person fulfill a long-time wish.

An elderly woman’s husband lives in a care and attention home.  Her handicapped daughter also lives in an institution.  The woman simply wants the whole family to be together for yum cha.  Volunteers will help gather the three of them for such a time.

An elderly man has always wanted to put up an exhibition of his drawings.  This one had the volunteers scratching their heads on how to make it happen.  One of them talked to a friend who talked with another friend who got them connected with another friend, and many conversations later, the elderly man will have his own exhibition in January at an art studio!

An elderly woman wants to pass on her flower arrangement skills to younger people in a series of ten sessions.  This too, was arranged with the help of volunteers.
