Character Success Education Programme
"Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education." -- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
In 2007, a discussion between Jonathan Liu (Director of Children Programme in China) and David Chung (Director of Children Programme in Hong Kong) led us to the conviction that shaping the character of children we serve is as important, perhaps more important than for them to get good grades.
The result is our Character Success Education Programme, based on the currirulum of "Character Counts!", the largest character education progarmme in the US.
The purpose of the Character Success Education Programme is to develop the Six Pillars of Character - trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, caring, citizenship, and fairness, in the children we serve at our centres. This concept has become the backbone of many of our programmes and activities. Whether they are doing their homework or interacting with one another, our staff can always point the children back to one of these pillars of character.
Furthermore, we have also design activities that reinforce these good character. Our latest innovation involves using specific board games to bring out and train the Six Pillars of Character in children. Our staff has also written a resource book to give volunteers the tool to implement this programme.
